“Susan's professionalism and responsiveness as technical director [of the Salt Institute] characterized her style as she applied her abundant expertise to her Salt Institute advocacy. She recognized that advocates need to be both careful analysts and resourceful spokespersons in seeking communications opportunities. Her production of definitive encyclopedia entries on the properties of salt and her insights into the dynamics of the salt industry endowed her with vast credibility. She arrived at the Institute skilled in quality assurance and quality control and expanded her expertise in nutrition and food labeling and in environmental aspects of properly handling highway salt, including salt storage guidelines. It was
great comfort to know she was only steps away with answers I needed.”
Richard L. Hanneman
